Hi! Ben Haller here, with a Stick Software newsletter!

The biggest news around these parts isn't strictly Stick Software news, but it does explain why this newsletter is a bit late coming out: my girlfriend and I just got engaged to be married! A picture of the happy couple is at right; her name is Keewon Kang. The wedding will be coming up soon (June 15th), so right now I'm neck deep in wedding planning, which has been getting in the way of my work a bit. Not that I'm complaining. :->

The Stick Software news for this newsletter is about Constrictor 2.0. It's somewhat of a landmark release for me, being the first release that has been localized for other languages. This is largely due to the hard work of a team of localizers, credited at Stick Software's "Localizer Hall of Fame". I hope to have localizations available for other products in the future, now that the kinks have been worked out of the process.

Constrictor is a screen snapshot utility for OS X. With version 2.0 it has become a shareware product, because we've added a whole bunch of features. Constrictor can now add effects like borders and fading around the edges of the snapshots it takes, it can scale snapshots to a reduced size, and can save the snapshots it takes in a variety of formats. You designate the area to snap using a draggable, resizeable frame, which can be precisely positioned to let you snap exactly the area you want — and then snap it again, if you want a before-and-after series. Constrictor can even be driven by AppleScript, for automated screen snapshots. And it's localized for ten languages:

For those unversed in vexillology, those are (in alphabetical order) the flags of Brazil, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Portugul, Spain and the U.S. If you're interested in doing localization work for Stick Software, you can surf to our page on that here. We particularly need localizers for Italian, Korean and Dutch; we don't really need localizers for the languages we've already got covered, since those localizers will be continuing to work with us.

Anyhow. We want to make Constrictor the best screen snapshot utility out there, so if there are any features you want, please let us know. We're hoping to do a version 2.1 incorporating some user suggestions sometime, so let us know what you want to see!

What with things being busy, that's all I have to report this time around. If you've got ideas, comments, bug reports, honeymoon suggestions, or anything else you'd like me to see, send a note to our support email address. We've got lots to do already, but we can always add items to our "to do" list.

Before we go, though, we'd like to make a small plug for the Stick Software t-shirt. It has our logo on the front, and on the back is our slogan, "Anti-productivity tools for the discerning user". They're high-quality, 100% cotton t-shirts, lovingly printed in 8 (count 'em, 8!) colors. Everyone who sees them loves them. You can get them in L or XL, or other sizes by special order. To get your own, just go to our Kagi payment page; the t-shirt quantity field is most of the way down on the page.

Thanks for your support. It's our vision, here at Stick Software, that the shareware model of software distribution can be better for both us and for our customers than commercial, shrink-wrap distribution. We believe in the Mac community's honesty and integrity; we believe people will pay for good software without being coerced. Thanks for doing your part.
